Key Personnel

Moose Mountain Mining and Geology principals are industry leaders. Individually, each has over 30 years of experience in mine operations, consulting and design. From preliminary resource estimation and pre-feasibility studies to production optimization in operating mines, MMTS provides a comprehensive range of evaluation and reporting services.  Expertise includes coal and oilsands operations, gold, copper and other metal extraction, open pit and underground mining.  Principals and associates at Moose Mountain are highly skilled in using mine software applications, specifically MineSight ®. Brief biographies our associates are provided below and their resumes are available on request.

Jim Gray, President and Principal, P. Eng., Mining Engineer (NI 43-101 QP):  Jim has 32 years of consulting and mine operations experience encompassing resource estimation, conceptual scoping studies, strategic planning, detailed designs, production schedule optimization, capital and operating costing, permitting, new mine start-up, operations management, and operations planning and supervision. He has worked in underground tin in Tasmania and open pit operations in Canada for Fording Coal in the Elk Valley and in Prairie strip mining. Since leaving operations he has been consulting internationally for 15 years in Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Australia, Iran, and North America. Jim was involved with the Quebrada Blanca project in Chile from original conceptual planning through resource development, financing, and start -up and productions reconciliation for non-recourse funding conditions. He is a NI 43-101 QP, has provided review consulting for Transalta, Teck Cominco, Placer Dome, and consulted on numerous projects around the world.  Jim has been involved in equipment control and production monitoring systems for large mining equipment and fleet management as a Director of Aquila Mining Systems.

R.J. (Bob) Morris, Principal, M.Sc., P. Geo., Geologist (NI 43-101 QP): Bob is a veteran geologist with 37 years in operations and consulting on metals, soft rock, coal, and oil sands projects. Gold exploration includes three years as VP of Exploration in Argentina, work in Bralorne area, Colombia, Nicaragua, China, and Saskatchewan. Base metal work includes evaluations in BC, California, NWT and the Yukon. Coal related assignments include exploration and development at all five of the mines in the Crowsnest and Elk Valley coal fields as well as regional mapping in southeast BC. He has done property evaluations in NE BC, Northumberland (British Coal), Iran, Indonesia, Colombia, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Thailand. Oil sands work includes due diligence review on the Fort Hills project for Teck-Cominco, geology and resource reviews for both Suncor and Mobil, and winter drill programs at OSLO and Synenco.

Bob Engler, Principal, P. Geo., Geologist (NI 43-101 QP): Bob has 35 years of experience in the Coal Industry, primarily in western Canada where he held senior exploration and mine development positions with Luscar Ltd; and later, executive positions in Coal Marketing. Bob is familiar with active coal mining operations in Canada and well informed on new and developing projects. He has specific expertise in coal quality evalutions and market evalution studies. Recent projects include new mine developments in North East BC, Saskatchewan and Central Alberta. Bob has also evaluated and conducted due diligence studies on coal projects in China, Mongolia, Mexico, Columbia and the western United States. Bob is a Qualified Person for NI 43-101 Reports.

Tracey Meintjes, Principal, Metallurgy and Engineering Systems: Tracey is a Process Engineer & Business Analyst with process design, project evaluation, project management and contract management experience. After immigrating to Canada from South Africa he has been involved with project evaluation work using MineSight software and advanced Excel-based cost modeling. He has been involved with copper, gold, coal, molybdenum, project evaluations and is a specialist in pit and schedule optimization. He is also responsible for creating the mining cost model and equipment data base used for the project evaluations.

Roger Berdusco, Principal, Sustainability, R.P.F., Professional Forester: Roger has over 35 years of experience in coal mining management focused on Environmental, Permitting and Regulatory, Aboriginal, and Community Affairs. During those years, he also had responsibilities that included operational and exploration geology, and Public Affairs. He worked for over 30 years at Teck and its predecessor mines in the Elk Valley, and three years at the corporate office in Calgary, AB. There he supervised Corporate Environmental and Aboriginal Affairs for 6 coal mining operations in BC and Alberta, the United States and Mexico. Roger and the companies he represented were recognized on many occasions for excellence in Environmental Management at provincial and federal levels.

Bob Fong, P. Eng., Mining Engineer (NI 43-101 QP):  Bob Fong has over 27 years of mine planning, design, management and operating experience in oil sands, coal and other soft-rock and base-metal mining operations. He has worked with start-ups, operations, mine engineering, environmental affairs, mine decommissioning and reclamation, including Byron Creek (now Coal Mountain) and Fording’s Fording River and Genesee Operations.  He was the Mining Lead on the Antamina mine feasibility study in 1997-98. He has worked on major oil sands projects since 1997, in various roles and responsibilities that include resource evaluations, cost studies, mine planning/design, and mining/project lead. Projects included Deer Creek’s Joslyn project, Synenco’s Northern Lights project, Suncor’s Steepbank, Lease 86/17, Millennium and Voyager projects, Mobil’s Kearl Lake project, and Lease OS9 for PanCanadian.

Don Guglielmin, Mine Software Application:  Don is a mine software applications specialist, with over 25 years of experience providing support to mine operations and major project studies specifically for Fording Coal, and Byron Creek. He has provided technical support to resource modeling, mine design, production scheduling, development and enhancement of specific software applications. He has modeled hard rock projects from copper and gold to diamonds, coal/strata form deposits, and oil sands projects. He is currently employed by Mintec Inc. and has been instrumental in developing complex coal software for the MineSight suite of programs.

Gerry Reeves, P.Eng., Mining Engineer (NI 43-101 QP): Gerry has been mining for 40 years in a variety of industries and projects. Project experience includes supervising mine planning, economic sensitivity studies, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, mine operations, environmental and geotechnical studies, government approvals and public consultations. His experience includes tenures at high profile projects including Highland Valley Copper, Suncor, Loram International, Gregg River Resources, Amax Coal US for Smoky River Coal, and Shell Canada’s Line Creek Coal. Since joining Moose Mountain, Gerry consults in a wide variety of project assessment and project management work including the Trefi Coal PEA, New Elk Coal PEA, First Coal detailed design, and other studies.

Greg Trout, Civil Engineer: Greg has diversified mining experience at a large open pit coal operation including tailings pond and infrastructure construction, production planning and scheduling, mine design, drilling and blasting, operations supervision, and mine maintenance. As Superintendent of Maintenance at Fording Coal’s Fording River operation he was responsible for all aspects of preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, planned component replacement, programs as well as analysis of new equipment purchasing programs and new equipment erection and major overhaul contracts. Since leaving Fording, Greg has been involved with bridge construction projects, equipment manufacturing, and fleet maintenance programs as well as mine planning and operations consulting. He specializes in mine maintenance, mine start-up planning, and evaluation of the operability of mine plans

Gordon Shewchuk, P.Geo, P.L., Geology: Gordon has over 32 years of geological experience in the exploration and development of thermal and coking coal projects. During his 25-year tenure with Luscar Ltd. (1978-2001) and Sherritt Coal (2001-2003) he was involved with numerous coal exploration and development programs in nearly all of the major coalfields of Western Canada, and coal deposits in North Dakota.  Since 2003, he has worked as an independent consultant on various energy projects including some Greenfield coal projects in northeast BC and in Central and Western Alberta. He has also worked on projects related to Oil Shales and Oil Sands development.

Suzanne Butterfield, P. Geo., Geologist/Mine Planner: Suzanne has over 15 years of experience with MineSight™ 3D mining software. She has used many aspects of MineSight™, including: building and maintaining the assay database, pit optimization (MineSight Economic Planner), pit design, medium and long range scheduling, geostatistics, 3D block modeling and interpolation, geological interpretation (establishing structural domains and ore trends), and calculating reserve/resource estimations and equipment requirements. She was a qualified person under NI 43-101 for the December 2006 and September 2007 Taseko Mines-Gibraltar Reserve updates.  Suzanne has worked as a consultant in the mining industry as well as at an open pit mining operation.  In additon to mining experience, Suzanne has worked for provincial governments in the tenure administration and water management for the Ministry of Environment.

Mike Takkinen, AScT. Coal Mining Specialist: Mike worked 24 years at the Byron Creek/Coal Mountain Mine in all aspects of the operations. This includes exploration, mine planning, coal quality assurance, coal processing, and environmental planning. He is trained as an ISO 9001 auditor and has been involved with ISO 14001 development. Mike is a specialist in the use of MineSight software in complex coal and coal resource modeling. He is also using his planning skills and operations experience in consulting in hard rock projects.

Daniel H. Sepullveda, Extractive Metallurgical Engineer:  Daniel is a metallurgist with 19 years experience in the mining industry, including operations, engineering, consulting, and management. Daniel has worked with major mining houses including: BHP, Codelco, Anglo American, Teck Cominco, and Phelps Dodge, and for E&C companies including: Fluor, SNC-Lavalin, and Hatch among others. Whether acting as owner's representative, or as the Engineer, he leads projects with a strong business savvy, hands-on experience, and broad technical expertise. Daniel is an experienced team leader, and has been a key professional in the development of a number of well-known projects. He has been involved in all project phases including optimized LOM plans, scoping, and feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, construction and operation. A number of these projects are currently in successful operation or in development phase. Daniel has participated in a number of due diligence teams representing either seller or buyer interests.

Sue Bird, P. Eng., Geotechnical Engineer: Sue has 15 years of experience in the mining industry, including resource estimation, mine planning and geotechnical engineering.  She has been involved in projects at the scoping level to strategic planning and operations.  Projects have included many deposit types including porphyry copper, epithermal gold, poly-metallic and coal deposits for both open pit and underground mining.

Jesse Aarsen, P. Eng., Mining Engineer: Jesse has 9 years of experience as a Mining Engineer. He worked 4 years at the Elk Valley Coal Corp. Greenhills mine, and the last 5 years with Moose Mountain. His work experience includes drilling and blasting, short and long range mine planning, production scheduling, and Engineering studies. He is experienced with fleet management systems, and Runge and MineSight mine planning software.

Marc Schulte, P. Eng., Mining Engineer: Marc has 8 years of experience as a Mining Engineer.  First employed at Finning, Marc provided specialty engineering support for equipment selection, productivity and costing analysis, financial modeling, and field support for Caterpillar production systems. His previous student experience (including a Co-Op term), included assignments at Fording Greenhills Operations and Luscar’s Line Creek (now Elk Valley Coal Corp.), and Fording’s Mildred Lake oilsands pre-stripping operation. At Moose Mountain, Marc has 5 years of mine design, mine scheduling, and costing on various open pit projects using MineSight and in-house software applications.

Cathy Pasemko, P. Geo., Geologist: Cathy is a Fernie based coal geologist with experience on exploration projects in the Elk Valley. She is providing support to Bob Morris in reviewing and evaluating the drill hole and geology data bases for coal projects.

Heather M. Robillard, P. Eng., Mining Engineer:  Heather has 10 years’ experience with operations throughout Canada, USA and Colombia and in commodities that include coal, gold, copper, and oil sands. She brings a diverse portfolio of work including mining and tailings engineering for CNRL’s Horizon Oilsands project. Her experience includes waste and tailings planning, operating and engineering budgets, development of financial models, reclamation and closure plans, and disposal diagrams. She also contributed to the development & implementation of long and short-range mine plans and financial models using XPAC and XERAS.

Robert Gray, P.Eng., Civil Engineer: Rob is a mine planning specialist using MineSight software. He is involved in project management and scheduling, open pit mine design, haul road, waste rock, and infrastructure planning. 

Matt Erickson, E.I.T., Civil Engineer: Matt is involved with concept-level civil works design, project scheduling, and pit design for mineral resource development.  Engineering Studies have focused on structural design and project management. He is a planning specialist using MineSight software for open pit mine design, haul road, waste, and infrastructure planning.

Darren Reeves, B Comm.,  Accounting and Financial Modelling: Darren has been with MMTS since Nov of 2009 and manages all MMTS accounting and reporting. He also provides Financial Model programs for MMTS clients. Darren brings 14 years of experience in the oil and gas industry including extensive experience in gas plant equalizations, production accounting and financial reporting. 

Novalee Reeves, CA, CPA, Tax Analyst:  Novalee provides MMTS with professional accounting advice. She has over 15 years of public and industry accounting experience.

Mona Erickson, CGA, Financial Analyst:  Mona is involved with cash flow modelling and economic analysis. She has 3 years of public practice experience, which includes financial statement and cash flow model auditing, financial projections and analysis, business valuation and business plan development. Mona graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2007 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and obtained her Chartered Accountant designation in 2010.

Graham Milne, AT, BDT, Cost Estimating, Technical Support: Graham was a construction estimator for 5 years and now is responsible for supporting estimating and costing studies. Graham maintains a network of contacts and vendors for the supply of various mine and industrial equipment, obtains quotes and budgets, and compiles operating cost estimates for project work.

Kirsten Molnar, B.A. (geog), B.Ed., Report/Document Manager:  Kirsten has been with MMTS since May of 2010 and has experience in editing, formatting, and managing a variety of professional reports and proposals.  She has over 8 years’ experience as a GIS Technologist while working for a company in Fernie, BC from 1997-2005.  Kirsten has also worked in the Dispatch and Mapping/Planning Departments for the BC Forest Service Protection Branch over several of their busy fire seasons.  In addition, she has been working as a Teacher on Call in Cranbrook, BC for the past 8 years.

Jaclyn Galbraith, EIT, Geological Engineer: Based in Fernie, BC and recently graduated from Queen’s University, Jaclyn has experience on coal exploration projects in the Elk Valley logging drill core and drill cuttings, coal sampling, geophysical log analysis, field mapping, and assisting with project management. She also has one summer of experience at Teck Coal’s Elkview Operations monitoring slope stability and participating in a selenium study. She is providing support to Bob Morris on a variety of exploration projects.
